Boxing
Boxing and kickboxing are great alternatives to cardio that doesn’t involve running which allow you to not only get in a good workout, but allow you to get your cardio in and build up your endurance. It’s a great exercise that can be done taking a kickboxing class in your local gym, a studio that specializes in boxing workouts, or from the comfort of your home. Grab a friend, spouse, or anyone else you have around and throw on a pair of gloves!

Skipping Rope
If you’re looking for a quick but effective workout then this is for you! Did you know jumping rope for 10 minutes is equivalent to 30 minutes of running? It has been proven just as effective as running for cardiovascular health with a higher caloric expenditure. Not only will it exercise your heart, but you’ll also work muscles in your legs secondary to the workout. Jumping rope is a very hard workout to work up to so to build your endurance start off with just 3 minutes, then work up to 5, and finally 10. You’ll see improvement in your form and endurance abilities slowly over time as you work up. Sooner than you realize you’ll be skipping like a pro in no time!
Cycling
Cycling is another great alternative for cardio that doesn’t involve running. It allows you to elevate your heart rate as you would while running, while building leg muscle and strength. I personally love cycling because it’s like a cardio and leg day built into a single exercise. The great thing about cycling is the ability to get outdoors and enjoy the scenery and fresh air as you get your exercise in. Or hit up your local soul cycle and get one hell of a ride in, in that high intensity and energetic environment. Doing this may allow you to push yourself more as you feed off of the energy around you, from people going through the same experience as you!
HIIT
High intensity interval training. This workout aims to boost your cardio that doesn’t involve running while building lean muscle. These workouts focus on multi set rounds containing exercises that will keep your heart rate up. Some of these exercises include but are not limited to: high knees, jump squats, burpees, mountain climbers, tuck ups, etc. For great HIIT exercises I love to follow Youtubers: Krissy Cela, Megan Grubb, Mad Fit, and Chloe Ting.
