7 Ways You Can Romanticize Your Life
Romanticizing your life doesn’t always mean going on dates with someone new every single weekend or nowadays, seeing how many swipes you get on Tinder. And even with “normal” dating, we get stuck in a constant state of repetition when it comes to our day to day life. We can often times forget that everyday tasks don’t have to be daunting or feel as if they’re a chore. Making small changes to your usual activities and adding in new ones can help to romanticize your life.
Take Yourself On a Date
Take yourself to dinner, have a picnic in the park or any outing in general is a huge factor to romanticizing your life. It’s important to feel comfortable in your own skin and to get outside of your comfort zone. Be secure with who you are and let yourself feel comfortable and used to being alone when you’re out in public. Often times, we can feel overwhelmed and unsure of what to do with ourselves when out in public when everywhere you look, people are paired up with one another.
As a way for you to begin feeling more comfortable with this, bring a book to read while you’re out, people watch, or if the restaurant has a bar, sit at the bar top and talk to the people sitting next to you. An outing to begin with that may be less intimidating is the weekend farmer’s market. Browse the selection of local produce they have available. You can plan out a meal to cook for dinner or for the week that night. Buy yourself flowers that you can bring home and have around the house. Farmer’s markets are great for a chill hangout during the day and supporting small, local businesses.
Listen to Music When Cooking
Listening to music while cooking is a great way to romanticize your life. However, it more so depends on what type of music you’re listening to. While I think it’s just as fine to listen to your generalized music taste and it makes it more fun, there’s a certain junoesque to listening to music that is romantic, from the classics, or in a different language. Take Frank Sinatra, Bon Iver or French music for example, to me, nothing screams romance more.
Learn a New Language
There’s something to be said about a person who can speak multiple languages. Depending on the language, it can not only make you sound sexier, thus, more attractive. It can also make someone appear more attractive because of the intellect it takes to to be fluent in multiple languages. Learning a new language can not only be a confidence booster, but a conversation starter as well. You expand your vocabulary and broaden your knowledge by learning a new language. Have a little fun with it by teaching people how to say different words, and who knows, you may get to put it to use one day by traveling to the country where people speak it natively.
Take a Bath
Substituting a shower for a bath at least once a week does not only romanticize your life, but adds in a touch of self care. We go through the motions of our daily routine, often times without enjoyment. Why not switch things up every now and then? Add in some bubble bath or a bath bomb, light some candles, grab a good book or pull up your favorite show on an iPad or laptop. Maybe even pour up a glass of your favorite wine or gin. Trust me when I say you’ll be happy you did this and feel much more relaxed after you do.
Go to Coffee Shops
Coffee shops are a great place to hangout during the day. The overall atmosphere and vibe of a coffee shop is oh-so romantic. From the music, to the pastries and the smell of coffee, this is one of the easiest and safest places to go to alone. Grab some work that needs to be done and let the productivity set in as you soak in the atmosphere. Grab a good book to read while you sip away at your coffee. Or people watch as you watch customers come and go and hear the chattering buzz of people around you.
Go to Bookstores
Going to bookstores may seem quite boring to some people, but I personally find it romantic and classic. Bookstores are great to romanticize your life as you walk down each aisle, taking in the smell of old books and paper, browsing the stores book collection. It’s peaceful as most people are absorbed and taken in by their surroundings. Grab and book and find a nook to read in. What’s on the menu? A classic like Jane Eyre or Wuthering Heights? Or possibly a poetry book from Rupi Kaur or Pierre Alex Jeanty? Going to a library can give you the same feeling as well. And what’s better about this is that the books you can rent are free.
Travel
One of the most romantic things you can do for yourself is to travel. Whether alone or with a partner, domestically or internationally, get out there and go. It is the most beautiful thing to to see new places and to learn about and experience different cultures. Whether its meeting locals, eating traditional food, or taking in the architecture, immersing yourself in a culture and seeing what’s out there is the epitome of how you can romanticize your life. Take yourself to the beach, rent an airbnb, take yourself for a walk through the local town. You never really experience life until you go out and see more life.
